The oil system is designed for lubrication or cooling of bearing assemblies and shaft sealing of the following equipment:
- expander-compressors;
- expander-generators;
- compressors (piston, centrifugal, screw ones);
- pumps;
- electric motors;
- turbo-generators;
- speed reduction gears.
The oil system is circulating, under pressure.
The oil systems are designed and manufactured in accordance with API 614 Standard ” Shaft lubrication and sealing systems, auxiliary equipment for the oil, gas and chemical industries” or other requirements of the Customer.
Depending on the structural design of the shaft seals of the lubricated equipment, the oil system can be made with a lubricating oil tank under excess pressure (“closed” system) or with atmospheric pressure (“open” system). The oil system layout can be made separately from the main equipment in a block design on its own frame or on a common frame with the main equipment, while the lubricating oil tank can be built into the frame.
The oil system consists of the following main elements: frame, lubricating oil tank with built-in electric oil heater and level gauge, oil separator (demister), pumping units (main and standby), twin fine filter with a switching device, coarse filters at the suction of oil pumps, pipelines with control, shut-off and safety valves, oil cooler, oil accumulators or reserve oil tank for supplying oil to the rotor bearings during rotor rundown or emergency shutdown of the pump, instrumentation and electrical equipment.
Main technical specifications of some developed oil systems are shown in Table 1.
